Our New House

Last Thursday we signed on a new house. It has 6 bedrooms (4 up, 2 in the basement) so there is plenty of room for us to grow (the previous owners raised 8 kids here!). Allow me to take you on a photo tour.

We picked up the girls after and took them over right after we finished with the paperwork at the bank, and one of the first things I noticed was that we had a broken sprinkler head. Seriously, within 30 minutes of signing the papers something is broken. Just our luck! :P

It's Aunt K-E!

The hearth room.
We don't exactly see eye-to-eye with the previous owners in the way of
home decor, but they mostly used paint, so changing things shouldn't be too hard.
The burgundy paint is already gone, and the lovely green carpet will not be staying
with us either.

To the right you go out onto the deck, but I forgot to take pictures of
the deck and back yard, so you'll just have to use your imagination for now.
It's pretty big though, so plenty of room for the kids and Tobey to run around.

The previous owner used this as an office, but I think it's supposed to be a living room.
We're converting it to a dining room.

This was used as a piano room, but it's supposed to be the dining room.
We're going to use it as a parlor/sitting room type area.
We just feel it's too small to use as a dining room.

Melanie especially likes the stairs.
She's played on the every time we've taken her to the new house,
and really enjoys making others play with her :)

I'm thinking we're going to do some lock changing to make this a bit simpler for me!

There are 2 linen closets in addition to all the cabinets around the vanity.
The shower and toilet are in a separate room which will be nice for getting ready in
the morning. The master closet entrance is also in the bathroom.
Does anyone know if it's called a "water closet" when the shower and toilet are in their
own little room? Because I think it would be fun to have an excuse to say "water closet"
from time to time.

Not big, but it serves it's purpose.
And it's on the 2nd floor, which will be very appreciated with all the clothes
my kiddos seem to get dirty.

I'm really excited about this one with all the built in shelving.
We'll use this as the craft/computer room.

Melanie was SOOO excited about it!

They even painted a little fireplace in it!
It also has a light inside and a working doorbell
(which may or may not be disconnected depending on how annoying it becomes...)

If you come to visit be prepared to be pulled in there with her!
The previous owners did the playhouse themselves (I think. They seem to have been pretty handy/crafty people). Probably the smartest feature is that the wall with the fireplace on it is made of plywood and has latches in the storage room, so if Melanie decides to hunker down in her little house and not come out, I can go in through the wall and get her instead of trying to climb in through the door after her. Good thinking!

The family was Mormon and did A LOT of home canning.
They even had their own little company that they sold some stuff through.

I was hoping for a "Family Ties" sort of look to this picture.
You get the idea at least.

Thanks for coming on a tour of our new house with us.
I'm sure within the next month I'll have a lot of pictures to share of all the changes we've
made to make this into "our" home. Heck, some of them are already underway!

Now to pray for the sale of our existing home!
